Nursing Home Demonstrations Volunteers from USA Dance Bluegrass Chapter perform ballroom dance demonstrations, monthly to quarterly, for local nursing homes. The residents truly enjoy these dance demonstrations, you will be truly blessed by joining in on this community outreach and you will get another hour of dancing! "Sharing the Joy of Dance" Many of us think of nursing homes as places for our aging loved ones (or eventually ourselves). Because we care for these people, members of our chapter are voluntarily giving dance demonstrations to brighten their day or at least give them an alternative to “Wheel of Fortune”. In May, we went to Mayfair Manor’s SENIOR PROM. The room was decorated with 50”s prom dresses, corsages and boutonnieres for the guests, and a variety of refreshments were available. The DJ was wonderful. He sang and played music everyone enjoyed. We (chapter members) danced for those who couldn’t. One gentleman was able to dance and loved the swing. I danced with him once and the attendants were his partners long after we left. The smiles and applause were heart warming. In July, our dancers went to Lexington Country Place. The residents were warm and gracious. Several remembered the group that came a few years ago. We are pleased to renew that legacy. Some of the resident’s family members were visiting that night and one sweet little 5 year old boy said he would dance with us the next time we were there. August was at Pine Meadows. This was another tender experience. We did several rhythm as well as smooth dances and they definitely liked the slow songs better. In September, we will be going to Sayre Christian Village. Our goal is to go to one of these homes each month. It’s a fun diversion for the residents and a heart warming experience for the dancers. Thanks to all those who are willing to participate. We can only use 2-4 couples each time because of space limitations, so if you have already signed up, I will be calling for you availability.
