Variety of ballroom and Latin mix; Live band |
| They have dances on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings. There is a lesson before each dance and you can actually do two lessons on Friday and Saturday nights.
The music is a live band each night and the cost is $10 person. The floor is about the size of Oleika's floor and it is all wooden! This was a great find and a true pleasure to dance at this venue. We highly recommend it if you are in the Salt Lake area. |

Coney Island Amusement Park

Big Band dances with live music |
| Offers Big Band Dances with live music, normally twice a year, with a huge dance floor and great atmosphere.
An affordable venue is the annual Labor Day big band dance at Coney Island’s Moonlite Pavilion where the Pete Wagner Band plays. The big band dance weekends are more expensive because they are a package with a price that includes the dances, hotel stay and meals. Although paying separately for an individual dance is also available.

Indianapolis, IN
Indiana Roof Ballroom |
Big Band, Latin, Foxtrot, Swing |
| The Indiana Roof Ballroom has been a favorite ballroom dance venue since 1927 when it was hailed as the world's most danceable floor. The 8,000 square foot floor is circular in shape and resembles the courtyard of a Spanish village with a nighttime sky and twinkling stars and unexpected thunderstorms occurring during some band breaks. Today, the only scheduled public dances are held on a few Sunday afternoons each year from 5 to 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The music is provided by various national Big Bands playing music of the 1930's and early 1940's except for an occasional cha-cha or mambo from the 1950's. Approximately a fourth of the dance selections are Latin with the remainder being primarily foxtrot and swing. The price is $13 per person. Seating is on the dance floor and on the balcony overlooking the floor, depending upon how early reservations are made. If you don't care where you sit, tickets are available at the door.
Until two years ago, I had never danced to a full orchestra playing music of the ‘30s and ‘40s … music that was written especially for ballroom dancing. My first introduction to music of the big band era was at the Indiana Roof in downtown Indianapolis. A live orchestra plays on Sunday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m. six times a year. They seem to be drawing a larger crowd at the Indiana Roof every time I go!
